APPLICATION AND SELECTION PROCESS

Entry into the Graduate Program occurs annually, in March and in August, by means of public selection, whose standards are established by Public Notice of Selection, approved by the Council on Graduate Studies and Research in Nursing (CEPGPEn).

The notice is published a minimum of 30 days in advance of the date set for registration.

The selection is based on the scientific merit of the research project and of the candidate, provided through a presentation of a research project and the curriculum vitae, in which the candidate must submit his titles, scientific production, professional experience (in teaching, service and research), participation in technical and scientific events, publications of articles, books, book chapters, simple and expanded abstracts

Registration may be made in person, by proxy or registered mail, and will only be completed when all documentation is delivered. Upon registration, the applicant must indicate the line of research and research center that he wants to complete, in accordance with the provision of the vacancy orientation published in the announcement.

Documents required for registration:

1. Completed registration form.

2. Check list completed by the interested party, attesting to the submission of the following documents, in a labeled envelope:

- Certified photocopies:

a) The nursing graduation diploma. In the case of a declaration of completion of the course, it shall be issued on the letterhead of the institution, with the signature of the competent authority, reporting on the process of issuing the diploma;

b) Taxpayer identification (CPF) for Brazilians. Foreigners must submit the original and a photocopy of the passport.

c) A candidate for the doctoral course will also include a certified photocopy of the diploma (or the minutes of the master's thesis defense, certified by the issuing agency) and a photocopy of the transcript of the master's course.

- Photocopy of birth or marriage certificate;

- Photocopy of civil or military identification document;

- Disclaimer of the candidate and/or his institution of origin, related to his commitment or release from work for the completion of the course;

- Two recent photographs, 3 X 4;

- Declaration of approval of proof of proficiency in a foreign language (English or French). For the master's: he is required to prove proficiency in a foreign language. For the doctorate: he will be required to prove proficiency in two foreign languages. The first foreign language can be considered that which was proven at the time of selection by the master's program.

3.Curriculum vitae of the last five (05) years, according to the model available to interested parties in the Academic Office of Graduate Studies, in two (02) ways, one of which is accompanied by vouchers.

4. Research project in five parts, related to one of the research lines of the Notice;

For admission in both courses, the following proof of proficiency in a foreign language will be accepted:

- Declaration issued by the EEAN/Center for Languages and Arts (CLA) at UFRJ, valid for 01 year.

- Certificates of Proficiency in Foreign Language awarded by internationally accepted institutions, accredited for this purpose, as specified below: English Language (Toefl [500 points], Michigan [ECPE, ECCE], Cambridge or British Council [FCE, CAE, CPE ], IELTS); French Language (French Alliance [CAPES/CNPq, CCIP, DEFF / DALF, TCF, TEF])

I. Foreign applicants from countries whose official language is not Portuguese, must demonstrate proficiency in the Portuguese language, through a declaration/certification of CELP-BRAS.

II. Candidates must observe the rules and specific validity of such certificates accepted internationally. In the case in which there is no specification of validity of examination of the certificates, those issued, at a maximum, of two years will be accepted.

III. The candidate may request acceptance of the certificate of proficiency examination in another foreign language other than English or French, provided that the relevance of the option is justified in the development of the thesis/dissertation. The general coordination of the graduate school shall issue the deferral of this petition so that the candidate's application becomes effective.

SELECTION PROCESS

Phase 1 (Elimination) - Pre-selection: Evaluation of the CurriculumVitae and research project and the adherence of these to the lines of research of the graduate degree program Stricto Sensu of EEAN/UFRJ


Phase 2 (Elimination and classifying) - Selection: Submission concerning the curriculum vitae and research project by a committee composed of three faculty members.

Candidate acceptance.
To be approved in the selection process, the candidate must achieve a minimum grade of 7.0 (seven) points.

Offer of Educational Scholarships

The graduate degree program Stricto Sensu has quotas for Educational Scholarships originating from CAPES, CNPq and Faperj To qualify for a scholarship, the student must submit the request to the Academic Office. The request will be evaluated by the Scholarship Committee based on the criteria of the funding agencies.

MASTER’S COURSE

The master's course of the School of Nursing Anna Nery/UFRJ began in 1972, and it was the first to be deployed in Brazil, in the area of nursing.

OBJECTIVES

  1. To provide a theoretical and practical foundation, with a view to the advancement of the profession, the pursuit of new knowledge and the development of scientific research and training for teaching at the undergraduate level.
  2. To prepare nurses to work in the planning and development of programs to assist the health of the population, stimulating a critical and creative spirit in the face of realities; to provide a theoretical-practical foundation that favors the development of research in nursing.

DYNAMICS OF THE COURSE

The course develops in up to 24 months and is organized in lines of research, which are linked to the projects that originate the theses. Compulsory subjects of the course develop strategies that allow students to complete their degree in four semesters, as advocated by the research funding agencies. Admission is granted by the Research Center, which offers the vacancies based on the availability of mentors in their respective research lines.

The defense of the research project should occur up until the second semester. The qualifying examination should occur up until the third semester, which corresponds to the preliminary report of the Master's thesis. It occurs after completion of the compulsory subjects of the course, and after having completed data collection (partial or full), followed by preliminary analysis.

For defense of the thesis, the master's student must demonstrate the submission of an article, a product of the dissertation, for publication in a journal indexed as Qualis A, or B1 to B3. The defense of the thesis must occur before the fourth semester.

COURSE STRUCTURE

The student must comply with, obligatorily, a minimum of 61% of the workload in disciplines of the Program (24 credits) and 195 h (13 credits) for the Thesis.
A candidate for the title of “Master's in Nursing” must complete 585 hours (36 credits), distributed in compulsory subjects, electives and the public defense of the thesis.

The minimum duration of the course is two periods and the maximum is four academic periods.

The master’s degree must be obtained by the end of the fourth semester, counted from the date of enrollment in the graduate program.

DOCTORAL COURSE

The doctoral course began in 1989, and was the third to be deployed in Brazil, in the area of nursing.

It has the philosophical guideline, “the greatest depth of knowledge and of the profession, aiming at the qualification as a nurse researcher, so one can effectively contribute to the enrichment of the knowledge of nursing.”

The doctoral dissertation is a written, original work, unpublished and relevant to knowledge, which represents a real contribution to nursing about the topic, correlated with the line of research of the student's choice, approved by the advisor and submitted to the Examining Board.

OBJECTIVE

To qualify the nurse as a researcher who can produce scientific knowledge, to contribute effectively to the enrichment of the knowledge of nursing and to produce changes.

COURSE DYNAMICS

The development of the final product of the doctoral course is evaluated on its three steps: defense of the dissertation project, qualifying examination, and dissertation defense.

The defense of the dissertation project should occur before the second semester. The qualifying examination should take place before the fourth semester. This corresponds to the preliminary report of the doctoral dissertation. It occurs after the doctoral student has completed compulsory subjects of the course and after having completed data collection (partial or full), followed by preliminary analysis.
For defense of the dissertation, the doctoral candidate must submit an article, the product of his dissertation, for publication in a journal indexed with Qualis A or B1 to B3.

COURSE STRUCTURE

The student must meet, obligatorily, a minimum of 76% of the workload in the program disciplines (990 h/66 credits) and 300 h (20 credit) for the dissertation.
A candidate for the title of “Doctor of Nursing” must comply with, at a minimum, 1290 hours (86 credits), distributed in compulsory subjects, electives and public defense of the dissertation.

The minimum course time is four semesters, and the strategies for teaching-research leading to obtaining the title within six semesters, counted from the date of enrollment in the graduate course.

Doctoral students who have obtained the master’s degree at EEAN/UFRJ have the right to harness up to 100% of the load hours defined for the course, according to an analysis by the Chamber of Equivalency of the workload of courses, and approval of the Council of Education of Graduate Studies and Research (CEPGPEn).

INTER-INSTITUTIONAL EXCHANGES

The program welcomes students from other graduate programs, within Brazil and from abroad, for placements in a “sandwich” modality, based on edicts of the agencies of promotion and inter-institutional agreements. The exchange student is accompanied by a tutor, a permanent professor of the program, and is integrated into the activities of the program of the Research Centers in accordance with the approved work plan.

POST-DOCTORAL PROGRAM

The Post-Doctorate in Nursing is designed for those possessing the doctoral degree, external to EEAN/UFRJ. It is developed with a minimum duration of three months, from the realization of the studies, with the maximum depth, contributing to consolidation of the line of research linked to one of the Research Centers of various departments of the EEAN.

The first Post-Doctoral program in nursing of EEAN was developed in the research line of Brazilian nursing history, in 2001. Currently, it receives doctorally prepared individuals from Brazil and abroad, in all lines of research of the program.

The program operates in accordance with the provisions of Resolution CEPG 03/2000, UFRJ.
